Much of your ship's instrumentation is on the three multifunction displays (MFDs) in front of you. Each MFD can display any one of the six ship subsystems: |

To 'change channels' on the left or right MFD, push its blue 'MODE' button
until you find the mode you want. In addition to the mode button (or six), each MFD has two blank orange buttons beneath it. They are blank because they have no single function. What they will do when you press them is what their MFD says they will do at the time. For example, an MFD displaying a radar scope (as the middle MFD above is doing), the left orange button will zoom in and the right orange button will zoom out. You've probably seen this sort of arrangement on Automatic Telling Machines. The green 'HUD MODE' button, when pressed, will further complicate your heads-up display (HUD) by adding a predicting gun sight (a yellow diamond) and a parallax indicator (a green circle). Select your target, line up the circle with the diamond, pull the trigger and watch your target turn into toasty bits. Often in the course of battle, one or more of the MFDs will become badly damaged. It may help to change the MFD modes around so the data you want most is on the least damaged MFD. It is recommended that you always have a radar displayed. Without a radar, you'll find it difficult to deal with incoming missiles. |
