The Heads-Up Display (HUD)

Much of your ship's instrumentation is on the heads-up display to save you having to look down more often than absolutely necessary.

Apart from all the technical instrument bits which will be explained in the following pages, the HUD displays useful messages from your ship's computer, like warnings of incoming missiles, the status of your hyperdrive, predictions of imminent doom, helpful fortune cookies and whether or not you've left the autopilot on.

The bottom of the message area is reserved for 'frag reports'. All pilots get to know who fragged whom the moment a ship is destroyed. Above, you can see the missiles from Latex Mallard have just turned the Axe Wielding Halibut into toasty bits.
