Throttle Indicator

The green frame in the middle of this cluster of readouts represents the full range of the throttle lever, from reverse to stop to full speed ahead. The white block is where your throttle handle is, so you don't have to look down at your left hand. The small white tick represents the current speed (on the back-forth axis). The ship will automatically fire forward and reverse thrusters to make that tick line up with your throttle handle. All speeds in Space Jihad are measured in meters per second.

The docking keys, a cluster of green buttons with arrows on them (see REFERENCE FRAME and THRUSTER CONTROLS) can accelerate your ship in any direction. The amount of acceleration is set by the blue plus and minus keys in the same cluster. As you press the plus or minus key, the new setting will be briefly displayed alongside a red four-way arrows graphic on the HUD.
Be careful not to select the wrong 'gear' when docking with a nuclear fuel depot, and avoid being in '1st' when you're trying to sidestep missiles.

Phone Status

Anything you could poosibly want to know about the phone system is in the 'COM' MFD display. The trouble is, it's a waste of an MFD to display the phone system when you're not actually talking to anyone, but you need some way of knowing who's calling without having to first flip through the MFD modes. For all you know it could be an enemy calling you just to trick you into leaving the controls to pick up the phone.

The HUD phone status indicator fixes this problem. If anyone is calling you, an animated ringing phone will show up on the HUD alongside the call-sign of the pilot(s) attempting to contact you. Above, Latex Mallard and Wulf are both calling. Do you really want to talk to them?
